| Celebrating 10 Years of Atlantis in Atlanta
- by Scott Smith |
|
|
|
|
The Atlantis Music Conference & Festival keeps getting bigger
and better each year. This year, from September 19 - September
24, they're going all out to celebrate their 10th Anniversary
in Atlanta.
|
 |
|
What is the
Atlantis Music Conference & Festival?
The Atlantis Music Conference & Festival is the best place to get a
360 degree, cross-genre view of what's next in the music world. The
three-day, four-night extravaganza offers artists, fans, and
industry professionals unique opportunities to see up-and-coming
artists perform, learn how the music industry works, network with
industry professionals, and party like rock stars.
Opening Party at Opera - September 19
The limousines pulling up to the Red Carpet at Opera will be
dropping off Hollywood stars, big hitters in the music industry, and
some of the best new talent in the biz. The party-goers will be
celebrating 10 years of Atlantis in Atlanta. The Opening Party will
feature performances from Jimmy Cypher, Tony Bahu, Blue Scholars,
and 3 Bad Brothaz. Cast members from the Capricorn Pictures film Randy
and the Mob are also set to appear. The action begins at 7:00 PM
in midtown Atlanta at Opera on Wednesday, September 19.
Artist Showcase Performers
Atlantis is the nation’s largest music industry conference that
focuses primarily on unsigned artists. Over 250 of the most exciting
up-and-coming artists will perform at the Atlantis Festival.
Highlighted showcases will be produced in partnership with 99x, Hot
107, Purevolume, SE Performer Magazine, and Synchronicity Live.
Performing artists will include:
- Blue Scholars
- Blue October
- Local H
- Meghan Coffee
- Modern Skirts
- Pasadena
- Rockets To Ruin
- Sam Thacker
- Slow Earth
- State of Man
- Steadlur

Music Industry Face-Off
Because new artists want more access to the music industry, the
Atlantis Conference is giving artists 10-minute slots to perform one
song in front of industry judges, who will immediately give feedback
and constructive criticism. This is a unique opportunity for artists
to hear from people who help shape the face of the music industry.
Daily Educational Panels
Music industry experts will host panels on key topics including
music videos, independent labels, changes in A&R, music production,
internet marketing, songwriting, new DIY methods, publishing,
licensing, reaching club DJs, touring and more. The 15+ panels will
be held during the day, from noon to 6:00 PM, at the CW Midtown
Music Complex in Atlanta.
Collision Course II DIAMONDS, SCANDAL, and FAME
No, that's not the title of the new James Bond movie. It's the title
of the Atlantis Fashion Show, which combines the hottest new music
with showcases from the hottest designers. The fashion showcases
will be divided into three categories. DIAMONDS: See the latest in
high-end fashions and formal wear. SCANDAL: Check out the sexiest
new swimsuits and lingerie. FAME: Get a preview of the newest styles
in casual and urban wear. Each fashion category will feature
performances from cutting-edge artists in urban and rock music.
New Central Location: CW Midtown Music Complex
For the first time ever, the Atlantis panels, parties, and showcases
will be centralized in one venue: the CW Midtown Music Complex in
Atlanta.
Atlantis Streaming Live Online
Atlantis 2007 will be streamed live online in partnership with
SynchronicityLive.com. Coverage will include backstage interviews.

While at Starfest, Catrina Maxwell had the opportunity to sit
down with Hank and Julian of The Whigs. They had a lot of things to say
about their experiences while being in the band The Whigs, which was formed
in 2003 in Athens, GA.

Suckerhead
Review by Scott Brock
The new CD from Suckerhead certainly doesn't sound like the freshman
recording from a new group, and probably for good reason.

A New Sound
By Tristan D'Ennery
When was the last "alternative" band you heard
that was actually alternative? I certainly can't remember. But last night I
saw two original bands at the 10 High Club that truly provided an
alternative to everything I've been hearing lately: Twelfth Planet and
Cinetrope.

Totally Savage
Review by
Scott Brock
Are you jonesing for a good
shot of guitar? I’ve got a fix for you. The new CD from Totally Savage,
"Trouble Dead Ahead," is a retro-trip to the days of stadium rock, beer
drinking, bar room blasting, pick up that guitar and play.
