FREAK THE JONES - Review by Lefty

I was asked to review the CD release party for Freak The Jones' latest effort, The Jones Motel. So, I grabbed my little notepad and my pen and I headed out to Smith's Olde Bar to check out the show. The scene when I arrived was much like that of any other local show: there were a few people standing around hanging out. But, as the night progressed, Smith's just continued to fill up. By the time the opening act (Acres) hit the stage,  the place was

bloody well close to packed. The atmosphere was electric. Finally, it was Freak The Jones' time to rock the house. Let me tell you, a few sentences just can't give anyone a real impression of what the show was like. Later, I was trying to tell a friend of mine about the show and the only thing I could say was that you just have to experience these guys. Recordings and words just won't cut it!

At this CD release party I was given copies of Ohm and The Jones Motel. Since then, Freak The Jones has ruled the CD player in my car. Both albums are immaculate collections of music. Both albums have a flow that has been lost in most of the major label releases for the last decade. It's like a good book you just can't put down. Both of these albums blend old school funk, straight up rock-n-roll, and an attitude of cool that would make The Fonz proud. The music is deep and emotional, and yet still maintains a great sense of humor. The funk makes you want to get up and shake your groove thing.

As far as local music goes, these guys are in a class all by themselves. I have not heard anyone that rocks as much as this. For the last week and a half I have been trying to figure out ways to cut and trim the things I want to say. It's been really hard. There is so much to say. So, in a nutshell, FREAK THE JONES ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
